August 11, 2008 - They're Home!!!

The weary travelers arrived in the Atlanta airport about 5:55 pm tonight and they climbed the front steps of our home about 9:30 pm.

It was fun to see some of the treasures they unpacked from their trip & listen to their memories.

Then it was off for showers & getting ready for their "first" day of school before collapsing into bed.  The girls actually missed their first day today.

We will probably post pictures & stories over the weekend & they'll have an opportunity to tell their own stories.

Thank you for all your prayers & phone calls of encouragement while they were gone!

Steve called me about 10 pm (EST) to let me know they are safely at the Lima airport & had a good day touring Lima & Kristiana is feeling much better.

However, their flight out of Lima, Peru to Fort Lauderdale, Fl has been delayed.  Therefore they'll be missing their connecting flight from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta.  Instead of arriving in Atlanta @ 9:35 am on Monday, they won't be arriving until 6:15 pm - if the flight out of Lima isn't delayed too long.

Please keep them in your prayers on Monday.  Steve says they're all doing well, just getting a little irritated/grumpy with yet another delay - only one flight has left on time out of 5 so far.

He was also quick to reassure me they've had a wonderful time & would not hesitate to travel to People of Peru again to help them in their ministry.

Hi Honey,

I'm really looking forward to seeing you too.  We had a really nice Sabbath, the closest SDA church was at least an hour away, so we decided to have our own Sabbath School and Church.  Had really nice services and a good finish to the trip.  This afternoon the adults hiked up on the mountain for a couple hours while the girls rested or read.  The girls were tired (Kristiana seemed to have a head cold & fever, but is doing much better tonight - so they reassure me) after getting up early (3:30 & 4:00 am) the past couple days and then walking much of the day at the historical sights or shopping at the markets.  We had a beautiful hike on the mountain, perfect weather and got some really nice pictures of the city, historical sights and the Peruvian people.  My favorite picture was one of the ladies who dress up in the traditional costumes and then have llamas or their children pose with them.  They always want money for taking their picture.  I was walking  over a ditch and looked when I heard something a little ways away in the ditch.  I looked down and there was a woman in the traditional dress trying to persuade a llama to climb out.  I didn't wait to see the result, she may still be there if the llama didn't want to get out.

This evening we went to the local vegetarian restaurant and helped Rick & Janet celebrate their anniversary.  Jennifer and I split their "special" which was soup and rice and veggie meat plus herb tea for about $1.40, and their "Royal burger" (about $4).  The royal burger has 2 large (lentil) type patties on a bun, a large slice of thick cheese, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato, sliced cooked carrots, sliced avocado, french fries and fried bananas.  Kristiana had a good veggie soup with bread.  I wish we could find a restaurant in Chattanooga that had vegetarian food this good, especially at the prices they charge!  Pastor Mix got Rick and Janet to kiss and got Janet really embarrassed, it was fun to watch.

I'm really looking forward to getting home, we leave tomorrow at 7:45 am from the hotel, fly to Lima at 10, then spend most of the day touring Lima or doing something.  It will be good to see you, can't wait.  It has been a wonderful trip and experience, but after a couple weeks, I'm ready to be home.  Love, Steve

Hi Mom,
I can't wait to see you, sleep in my own bed, have a regular schedule and eat food at normal hours.  As for food I want to eat, (I had emailed them earlier today, asking what they wanted to eat first when they got home)  I don't know except that I really, really, really want grits & gravy Tuesday morning for breakfast (can you tell she's been raised in the south?:).  Pancakes and waffles also sound really, really good.  I can't wait to see you .  Love you lots,  Kristiana

Hi Mom!
As for foods, I know it sounds crazy, but we would really enjoy a big salad, and a big tomato salad, and all the vegetables and fruits in the house.  Grits and gravy also sounds really good for Tuesday morning!  Again, anything with fresh fruits and vegetables would be amazing!!!  Can't wait to see you soon.
Love, Jennifer
